Trees are art in their own right. Myoung Ho Lee has taken this literally in his treescape photography series. The artist has spent the last decade traveling around his native South Korea capturing trees in all their grandness.
Each tree in his series is a different species, which he states symbolizes a diversity of beings which are put on stage to feature their individual beauty. By placing the canvas behind the trees, the artist immortalizes them in their native landscapes. A simple canvas changes our attitude toward an everyday object. It is striking how something as simple as bringing the canvas to the art rather than brush to canvas can have such a profound impact.
Simplicity is the power of each photography. A shining ethereal beauty is brought to the trees in Lee’s work. It makes magic on the landscape and almost appears as if you could pluck one right from the ground.
